Simplicity of Good and Evil

They say good can’t exist without evil. Some say that nothing is all good or all evil. An amazing thing happened this weekend-thousands of students who normally spend their weekends studying or parting or otherwise doing whatever they wanted, spent 46 hours on their raising over twelve million dollars for children with pediatrics cancer. For me, the last four hours of THON, were the most amazing, eye opening, emotional, life changing, indescribable  hours of my life. The atmosphere in the Bryce Jordan Center was something that could not possibly be rivaled; the building was at capacity with people who had been there all night, or even two nights, who were tired and physically exhausted. But as those families told their stories, you no longer needed to sit down, to rest. You didn’t want to sit. It scares me to think that in the same world where thousands of college students donate countless hours to help raise money for the kids, Hitler tried to exterminate multiple races of people, where we drop a bomb that kills hundreds of thousands of innocent people, where the Taliban shoots a young girl just because she wants to go the school. J.K. Rowlings wrote that :there is no good and evil, there is only power, and those who are too week to seek it”. I call “bull” to this. There is both good in the world. And there is bad. Maybe one could exist without the other, but there is really no way of ever knowing for sure. They coexist. We like to say that, in the end if nothing else, good will defeat evil. We see movies where the good guys always wins in the end. But in life, it’s not always so clear who the good guy is. In wars, soldiers on both sides pray to God or whatever that they shoot their guy before he has a chance to shoot them, soldiers on each side completely convinced that they’re the good guy in each case.  But what if good and good and evil  never defeat the other because they are not necessarily against each other? What if they are not in a competition at all. What if they just the good happens independently of the evil? What if the two have and always do simply coexist.
